In approximately 2 weeks we will celebrate Valentine's Day. Now I love the idea of Valentine's Day, spending some time acknowledging the love of your life, yet for me it's more than that. It's about acknowledging ALL the LOVES of my life. Of course, there is my husband of 20 years, but there are also my 2 kids, my parents, brothers and sister. It's about my friends and extended family. It's about our 3 dogs, 2 cats and all our foster furbabies, which brings me to my point. Our pets are not just animals, they are a part of our families. We know them better than anyone else, their likes and dislikes, their quirks and habits. This is why I paint pet portraits as a way for us to remember that special pet we may have lost OR even those still with us. My goal is that the portraits I create bring happy memories to the recipient. That one can look upon the stone and smile or cry happy tears. When I hand someone their stone and see the emotion in the recipient's eyes, I know I have done my job. Recently I had the pleasure of creating a stone for a client who had difficulty requesting a stone of her beloved dog who had recently passed away. When I met with her to deliver the stone, she was overcome with emotion. I tried not to, but I cried with her. They were happy tears, so all was good.
So on this day to celebrate the love of your life, remember the LOVES of your life too. Happy Valentine's DAy everyone!
